I got used to it and I even used it to differentiate MY mat from other people's. It got left on for a week or two and never completely came out. Literally walk over to the trash can and throw it in.Įven with the above warnings, I've had chessex mats that have lasted for DECADES and I'd STILL be using one that was about 25 years old if I hadn't lost it somewhere in moving, it had a little faint red starburst on it that was fading over time which had been drawn to show a campfire. When you see that one of the pens you have tends to set-in too fast, wipe it off sooner and/or just stop using it. If there's some set-in still left it's USUALLY okay and will wash out eventually IME with regular use and regular wiping down, just don't leave the initial pen marks to set. As for cleaning - just water is all you should need - even when the pens start to set in. Don't even wait for the end of the game session. Red is an AWFUL color to use because it definitely sets in quickly. End of the evening that HAS to be cleaned. It's seldom made any difference the brand - but the COLOR sure does, as does making sure to NOT leave it on the mat. Just whatever is first on the shelf (or cheapest) when I go to pick some up.
